Welcome to one of my favorite blog posts of the week — “I Think I Can Thursdays.” This series is about women supporting women and mothers supporting mothers. Each week I’m going to feature a different small shop and introduce you to the brilliant woman behind it and one of their fabulous products. These businesses are the product of hard work, long hours, and an unbelievable vision. So sit back, enjoy the read and at the end of the post there might be a savings code for you! (Okay, there definitely will be.)
“I left a 13 year career in law enforcement with great encouragement from my husband to be at home with our then newborn daughter 5 years ago. As my daughter grew, clothing became frustrating to fit her in. She did not have a cookie cutter body type, as she was notably tall. I started to explore options to sew handmade clothing for her to actually fit in comfortably. I had some experience quilting and after the birth of my second daughter, I started to read blogs and watch instructional videos on understanding clothing patterns and sewing techniques whenever I could. I was so proud to create clothing for my daughters. We regularly received compliments on the whimsical fabric designs we chose. It became an obsession to sew and create. My husband again set the scene for me to do what I love. After putting off the start up for months, last October, he opened a shop on Etsy in my name and handed it off to me to get started! It has been the most amazing, the most difficult, and the most rewarding thing all at once. It is part of a lifelong dream to create fashion. My creations from dresses to hair accessories are a part of so many special moments. I could not ask for anything more rewarding. The truly incredible part is the girls are growing and understanding the importance of handmade. They both LOVE to sew with me. My 5 year old has her own sewing machine, and at times sews side by side with me. It’s such an uplifting experience do what you love and share in it with your children. My greatest fear had been that they would only know me as mom who is readily available at any moment for them. They don’t understand much of my former career and what I had done but they live in the moment of my dream. We believe what you wear speaks for you, can be a conversation starter to build friendships, and hope that our fashions can help teach kindness and unity. After all, why fit in when you were born to stand out?” – Michelle
Isn’t she amazing? If her words don’t inspire you, just wait until you see her product! Berklee and I are lucky enough to be Brand Enthusiasts for her shop and I couldn’t say better things about Michelle. Our relationship started in a collaboration, but now I get to call her my friend. She truly pours her heart and soul into every piece and the craftsmanship shows.
